Beginning Therapy

What to Expect

Initial Appointment

The purpose of our first appointment together is for me to get to know you – where you’ve been and where you’d like to go. I will have prepared questions and prompts for you that will help guide our conversation and allow me to get to know you below the surface. You will have the opportunity to ask questions and determine if our therapeutic relationship is a fit for you and your goals.

Ongoing Appointments

In our ongoing appointments, we will engage in therapeutic work towards your goals. Whether your goals are to build and maintain healthy relationships, improve emotion regulation, work through trauma, increase emotional intelligence, develop a deeper understanding of yourself, process grief, or improve self-esteem (just to name a few), we will walk the journey together towards a more authentic sense of self and deeply connected, meaningful relationships.

Insurance & paying for Therapy

Verifying your insurance plan benefits prior to scheduling an appointment is an important step to beginning the therapy process. This essential step allows you to have a clear understanding of your coverage, copayments, and potential out-of-pocket fees, making your therapeutic journey more transparent and financially manageable.

Please remember that being responsible for your bill and ensuring your copay is paid at the time of service not only helps maintain the integrity of our therapeutic relationship but also supports the sustainability of the practice of Oak Tree Counseling. Your commitment to this partnership is greatly appreciated.

Not sure what to ask your insurance regarding mental health therapy benefits?

The following information should be gathered:

  1. If your insurance plan covers therapy sessions with me.
  2. If you have a co-payment or co-insurance, and what that amount/percentage is.
  3. If your insurance plan has a deductible that includes mental health appointments. (A deductible is the amount you will pay out of pocket before insurance pays all or part of your appointment costs)
  4. If your plan will cover telehealth sessions.

Please note that private pay clients have a right to a Good Faith Estimate under the No Surprises Act.

Length of sessions can vary from 30 to 60 minutes based on the need of the client.
